Peer Support - Caregivers
Because you need care too!
Service Description
The Peer Support Group for Caregivers provides a safe and supportive environment for individuals who dedicate a significant part of their lives to caring for others. Whether supporting someone with a mental health disorder, a chronic physical ailment, or an aging parent, caregivers can come together to share their challenges, emotions, and experiences. The group emphasizes the importance of self-care, boundaries, and building healthy relationships while navigating the complexities of caregiving. Facilitated by a lived experience expert who has spent years supporting loved ones with mental health concerns, the group creates an empathetic and understanding space. Sessions focus on the unique challenges caregivers face, such as feelings of guilt, frustration, or exhaustion, as well as practical insights into self-care and communication. Each session begins with an introduction to a topic by the facilitator. If participants are hesitant to share, the facilitator may initiate the conversation. The group fosters a free-flowing discussion, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to share if they wish, while also respecting individual preferences for silence. Topics are explored in depth, focusing on meaningful aspects of caregiving rather than broad discussions. This peer support group aims to empower caregivers to recognize the significance of their role, care for themselves, and establish boundaries that nurture healthier relationships with their loved ones. We hope participants leave feeling seen, supported, and equipped with tools to better navigate their caregiving journeys. All sessions conclude with a grounding technique, such as meditation, to help participants reflect and leave the session feeling supported. These sessions are not a replacement for therapy, but we do have resources available that can help with additional support as needed.
