Peer Support - LGBTQIA+

Because love is love!

1 hCommunity Centre

Service Description

We are a supportive and inclusive LGBTQIA+ peer group committed to creating a safe space where everyone can express their true selves, share experiences, and build meaningful connections. Whether you're here to make friends, find solidarity, or just be part of a welcoming community, you belong here. Together, we celebrate diversity, foster understanding, and uplift one another. 🌈 Come as you are, love as you are. Each session begins with a lived experience expert introducing a topic relevant to the community. Group discussions follow, where members are encouraged to share their thoughts, perspectives, and personal journeys. The facilitator ensures everyone has a chance to contribute (if they choose to) and guides the discussion to create and maintain a supportive atmosphere. Topics are explored in depth with practical day-to-day relevance. The sessions also adapt to participants’ needs, incorporating suggestions on themes they wish to explore. The group fosters a free-flowing discussion, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to share if they wish, while also respecting individual preferences for silence. Sessions start and end on time; participants are asked to arrive 5 minutes early. Latecomers beyond 10 minutes will not be allowed to join. The group follows a structured format, beginning with ground rules before diving into discussions prompted by starter questions. These peer meet sessions are confidential—while participants can apply their learnings outside the session, identities and direct attributions, including mentioning Agatsu’s peer support, must not be disclosed. All sessions conclude with a grounding activity, such as meditation, to foster calm and reflection. These sessions are not a replacement for therapy, but we do have resources available that can help with additional support as needed.
